Spotify to Raise Premium Subscription Prices Globally Starting September

Spotify has announced that it will increase prices for its Premium Individual subscription across several global markets beginning September 2025, as part of its ongoing strategy to improve profitability and invest in product innovation.

The price hike will affect regions including Europe, Latin America, Asia-Pacific, South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, where the monthly subscription will rise from €10.99 to €11.99. The United States, Spotify’s largest market, will not see any changes at this time.

The Swedish audio streaming giant cited rising operational costs including taxes and employee-related expenses as a major reason behind the adjustment. The company also emphasized its commitment to enhancing user experience and content offerings.

“We’re making changes to our Premium prices so we can continue to invest in and innovate on our product offerings and features, and bring you the best experience,” Spotify said in an official statement released Monday.

Subscribers affected by the price adjustment will begin receiving notifications via email over the next month. Localized pricing details will also be updated on the official Spotify website for each country.

Despite strong user and revenue growth in 2025, Spotify’s latest earnings report showed profits falling short of expectations due to escalating costs, making the price increase a logical next step.

The upcoming increase marks Spotify’s third major price adjustment in some markets since 2021. For example, subscribers in Sweden will see their monthly rate increase from 129 SEK to 139 SEK next month.

In addition, Spotify is reportedly preparing to launch a “Music Pro” tier later this year, which will offer lossless audio quality and AI-powered tools, possibly targeting audiophiles and content creators willing to pay more.

While the price bump may feel minor, it reflects a broader trend in the music streaming industry, where companies are balancing user growth with revenue pressures. Spotify continues to lead the market with over 615 million monthly active users worldwide, including 239 million Premium subscribers as of Q2 2025.
