Lagos Emerges South West Runner-Up in the Primary Health Care Leadership Challenge
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has proudly announced Lagos State’s recognition as the South West runner-up in the prestigious Primary Health Care (PHC) Leadership Challenge organized by the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF).
The Governor disclosed this in a statement shared via his official X handle on Friday.
The state was awarded a $400,000 prize for its outstanding performance, marking a significant achievement in advancing primary healthcare services. Speaking on the recognition, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his gratitude and pride in the team’s efforts.
“I am happy to announce that we are the South West runner-up in the Primary Health Care Leadership Challenge organized by the Nigeria Governors Forum,” the Governor said. “We won a $400,000 award for being the best from the South West region, and this makes me extremely proud and grateful for the hard work of our team.”
The PHC Leadership Challenge is a flagship programme of the NGF, designed to revitalize the Primary Health Care Under One Roof (PHCUOR) policy across Nigeria. It seeks to maximize the commitment of state governors to increasing PHC funding progressively and ensuring that all primary healthcare centers have the necessary human resource capacity to serve their communities effectively.
Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to leveraging this achievement for the benefit of Lagosians. “This award will further encourage us to do even more in the area of primary health care. Our goal is to continue improving healthcare services for the benefit of all Lagosians,” he stated.
The Governor emphasized that the recognition reinforces Lagos State’s dedication to providing quality healthcare services, adding, “This recognition reinforces our commitment to providing quality healthcare to our citizens, and I am determined to build upon this success to create an even stronger and more efficient primary healthcare system in Lagos State.”
