Gas Supply: Chevron Proves to be a Good Corporate Citizen – FG

The Federal Government has expressed appreciation to Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) for its efforts in boosting gas supplies to the domestic market in the country.

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, stated this yesterday during a meeting with a team from CNL, led by its Managing Director, Mr. Jim Swartz.

The meeting, held at the request of the Gas Minister, aimed to get an update on CNL’s efforts to domesticate the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) produced from its Escravos facility, as well as the company’s initiatives to deliver more natural gas to Nigeria and the West African subregion.

Ekpo recently mandated the domestication of all LPG (cooking gas) produced within the country, targeting the stabilization of gas prices in the domestic market.

The minister emphasized the need for International Oil Companies (IOCs) operating in Nigeria not only to focus on gas exports but also to contribute to the Federal Government’s goal of ensuring that Nigerians benefit from the country’s substantial gas resources through increased domestic gas supplies.

During the meeting, the minister commended CNL for being a good corporate citizen and for dedicating more volumes of its gas to the domestic market.

He also assured the oil firm of the government’s support in achieving its gas projects in Nigeria.

Swartz reiterated Chevron’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s aspiration of producing affordable, reliable, and cleaner energy that enables human progress. He highlighted Chevron’s recent execution of the Project Panther funding agreement with its JV Partner, NNPC Ltd., among other efforts to enhance its natural gas delivery.
