Emirates SkyCargo Expands Fleet with Order of Five Boeing 777 Freighter
Emirates SkyCargo, the cargo division of the world’s largest international airline, has placed a firm order for five additional Boeing 777 freighters, slated for immediate delivery between 2025 and 2026. Valued at US$1 billion, this order increases the airline’s total wide-body aircraft order book to 315.
In Q1 of the current 2024-25 financial year, Emirates SkyCargo achieved exceptional performance, with load factors and tonnages surpassing 2019 levels. The new aircraft will boost the airline’s main deck cargo capacity by 30%, enhancing its ability to serve key markets and global customers.
His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, stated, “The growing demand for our world-class product and services, driven by Dubai’s Economic Agenda to double foreign trade and cement the city’s position as a global trading hub, underscores the necessity of this investment in additional Boeing 777 capacity. This is a crucial step in our long-term strategic growth plan.”
Emirates SkyCargo plans a comprehensive review of its future freighter fleet to ensure it meets evolving market demands, reaffirming its commitment to global trade and airfreight.
Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, remarked, “We are honored that Emirates SkyCargo has once again chosen the Boeing 777 Freighter to extend its global reach. We value Emirates’ trust in the Boeing wide-body family and are committed to supporting their strategic growth.”
The staggered delivery of the new aircraft will enable Emirates SkyCargo to retire older freighters, maintaining one of the youngest and most efficient fleets. Alongside the ten Boeing 777Fs on order, the airline is converting ten 777-300ERs into freighters, aiming to expand its freighter fleet to 17 by the end of 2025. Leveraging the Emirates passenger fleet, the cargo division will continue to ensure fast, reliable, and efficient global goods movement, offering increased flexibility with a diverse fleet of 777s, 777-Fs, 747Fs, A350s, and A380s.
