Buhari commissions Lagos Blue Line Rail project
President Muhammadu Buhari has commissioned the Lagos Blue Line Rail.
The Lagos Blue Line Rail project is a 27-kilometre rail system from Marina to Okokomaiko. Its construction was divided into phases for ease of implementation. It is expected to move more than 500,000 passengers when the entire line is eventually completed.
The commissioning which took place on Tuesday, is the first phase of the Blue Line Rail, which is a 13 kilometer stretch from Marina to Mile 2, covering 5 stations, and expected to transport 250,000 passengers daily.
The groundbreaking for the second phase was also done by His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, who witnessed the signing of the contract for the commencement of the project’s second phase, which will cover a 14-kilometre stretch from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-olu took Mr. President on a train ride to experience firsthand our new rail system.
Sanwo-olu said the development of our dear state’s audacious rail infrastructure project was done to increase mobility for commuters and raise productivity to energise the state economy.
The ongoing construction on the Red Line, which extends 37-kilometre from Agbado to Ebute Metta, has reached an advanced stage, and is on course to be completed in due time.
