2031 Presidency: El-Rufai accuses Ribadu of working to eliminate any Northerner who stands in his way

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has alleged that the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, is leading a coordinated effort to tarnish his reputation amid growing political speculations surrounding the 2031 presidential election.
Speaking in an interview on Arise News, El-Rufai claimed that Ribadu is behind a politically motivated campaign to sideline him and other perceived competitors from the race.
“Nuhu Ribadu wants to be President in 2031 and is working to eliminate any Northerner who stands in his way,” El-Rufai stated.
He further alleged that the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) is being used as a tool in this effort, reporting directly to Ribadu on matters concerning him.
“This entire project of destroying Nasir El-Rufai is Nuhu Ribadu’s conception,” he asserted. “He is both the architect and the builder of this scheme, working alongside Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani to execute it. So far, their attempts have been frustrating for them because they have found nothing against me.”
El-Rufai also claimed that, in recent weeks, efforts to implicate him have intensified.
“In the last two weeks, they have resorted to calling lower-level officials and some of my former aides, telling them, ‘Implicate El-Rufai, and your problems will go away,'” he alleged.
The accusations have sparked political discussions, with observers noting the potential implications for Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2031 elections. Ribadu and Sani have yet to respond to the allegations.
